Meet Violette Mai

This is my niece, and she is amazing.

I got to spend today with her and I have to say it was one heck of a day. Why? Because this beautiful 3 month and 3 day old little lady just discovered that she is fluent in "baby talk." What more? I've decided that her "oohing" and awing" means that she completely, 100 percent, without a doubt thinks that my jokes and silly faces are the best in town.

I love this girl. More than I've loved any other person.

Being an auntie is the best!

Snow?!

This weekend I am heading up to Palomar Mountain for a staff retreat. I am looking forward to brainstorming, getting to know my fellow staff members better and getting away from it all.

And what else? Playing in the snow. My goal this weekend is to build a snow sculpture that is unlike any other (insert giddy little girl giggle here).

Why so excited? Because for this San Diego girl snow and friends combined is something quite amazing!

I will escape this week.

I am making it a goal to escape and do something that I enjoy for myself this week. It seems selfish. It can seem like a waste of time, but I never realized how much I needed this.

It wasn't until I got to a point where I realized that in order for me to enjoy life (and to remember what I like to do for fun), that I realized that it is okay to say "leave me a message while I enjoy some me time."

So what's on my schedule?
Wednesday 7AM I am going to spend some quality time with my niece (who is 3 months and 1 day old, and reminds me that life is bigger than myself). And after... well I'm not sure. But I think that's the point. I will have nothing planned for anything other than what I want to do. A walk on the beach. Window shop for that navy blue Kitchen Aid mixer that I want to someday have. Paint. See a movie. Or maybe do nothing.

Whatever I do I am going to escape.

And you should do the same.

HOW TO: Decorate With Recycled Pallets

If you know me at all you know that I like to decorate. Not just decorate- I like to be creative and use the limited resources ($$$) to make things work. So, why not use free wood pallets from your local hardware store to make creative storage spaces, picture frame artwork, or even furniture?

Needless to say, I will be putting my creative pallet skills to work as soon as I can come up with the space to do this.
